Environmental Health:
FABB emphasizes how environmental health and justice are joined.
· This program educates, organizes, and advocates for: a health-promoting environment in the South Bronx—including healthy homes, schools, air quality and recreational spaces, and an environment that is socially and culturally supportive to our community.
· We developed the Wheel of Hope Project, working for healing, knowledge and empowerment for women with cancer and have conducted a series of bilingual Wellness and Healing Days for Women with Breast Cancer in the Bronx, the only one of its kind targeted to a low-income and people of color community.
· We also work with researchers at Columbia, Montefiore, Lehman College and other institutions to document the effects of air pollution on our health.
· FABB has worked to educate pregnant and new moms, and others of child-bearing age on environmental factors that could affect the health of a fetus or newborn, and suggestions for things they could do in the home and kitchen to reduce their child's exposure to toxic chemicals.
