What We Do: The Green Youth Collective (GYC)

is a youth run, youth led program where youth can empower themselves to organize and find solutions to problems that pertain to them, as well as an opportunity to take action.  It works through youth organizing, youth activism, direct actions and direct services.  While doing so youth can also break down the generational gap and create self-sustaining community environment and space to build relationship between families, friends and neighbors.

The mission of Green Youth Collective: is to raise awareness and educate youth and community members from the South Bronx so that they may reach out to family, friends, and neighbors and pass on what they have learned and experienced. By doing this, we believe this can empower the people to organize and find solutions to problems such as , lack of health care, lack of healthy food,  lack of environmentally friendly homes, safe space for our community members and gentrification, to mention a few. Through youth organizing, youth activism, direct actions and direct services, we can empower ourselves and our communities. While doing so we can also breakdown the generational gap and create self sustaining community environment and space to build relationship between families, friends and neighbors.

The Green Youth Collective was started by a group of young individuals as a result of addressing many of the injustices that our young generations face in there lives. From homelessness, lack of food/healthcare, work, interactions with the Prison Industrial Complex and funding for proper educational institutions has created barriers which limits our communities from  interacting and joining together to create a sustainable way of living. By using a method of Sankofa (looking at your past to determine your future), we feel that we can reunite our communities and learn, as well as, teach in an intergenerational learning environment.
